Be your own best friend

We are all our own worst enemies at one time or another in our lives. And, no one ever teaches us growing up to treat ourselves with compassion and kindness. In fact, you may have even heard that in doing so, you are being self centered, "selfish" or self involved. That notion couldn't be any further from the truth. And, you can never have meaningful, reciprocal relationships in your life until you become your own best friend. Today, set your intentions to become your own best friend. Today, choose to be kind to yourself. Do not use your own self-talk to say things that you would not say to others. And, if you are suffering, today instead of ignoring your pain, frustration and anger, listen to them. Do not judge yourself and for goodness sake, stop criticizing yourself. Give yourself a break today and show yourself some compassion-the compassion that you would give to your best friend. You just may find that your other friendships and relationships truly benefit from you first being your own best friend.

Just for today, I recognize that I am my own best friend. Other friends may come and go but I am always here with and for myself. I support myself in feeling good. I treat myself as if I am someone who I deeply love and tell myself frequently that "I love you". I monitor my self talk making certain it is uplifting and supportive of myself and others. I forgive myself when I make mistakes. I am living the best way I know how. I am safe and everything is working out for my highest good. And so it is.
