Be kind

All of us have been hurt or angered by someone’s words at some time in our lives. Some words are blatantly cruel, and others are deceptive, appearing to be in our best interest but in the end they hurt us. These are the messages that leave us questioning who we are or how we should be. And, when we’ve been hurt, we might try to get rid of the feelings by distancing ourselves, rationalizing away our hurt feelings or fighting back. However, lashing out, hiding away, or conforming will not bring us any inner peace nor do they leave us feeling validated or loved, which all of us are seeking in some way. And, when we are hurting or angry, loving-kindness can be especially challenging and yet it is empowering to practice loving-kindness not simply in spite of feeling hurt but because we have been hurt. Today, consciously choose to practice loving kindness instead of lashing out or making a retaliatory plan. Practicing kindness can help train the mind to be more positive and you will be able to see the good in the world. Don’t get me wrong, it is not about giving away your power, giving in, and not holding people accountable. It’s about being reasonable, fair, open, supportive of others and empathizing with them. Furthermore, practicing loving kindness can increase your sense of fulfillment and joy, it can help you build resilience, and it is also a source of strength, allowing yourself to maintain a positive attitude, resulting in you being able to attract more positive experiences. Today, consciously choose to come from kindness and watch your world change.

Just for today, I recognize that the kinder I am to others, the more kindness I will attract. I beam kind and loving thoughts to everyone I meet. I am deserving of love and kindness. The love I have for myself is reflected in all my relationships. I am renewed and restored by the faith that I have in my own healing power of love.
