Selfishness

“Be there for others, but never leave yourself behind.”

Many of us struggle with the idea of putting ourselves first. We were raised to think we should always put others before ourselves and ignore our own needs—that putting yourself first is somehow arrogant, self-centered, or it is just a downright selfish thing to do. However, in truth, taking care of yourself is the opposite of being selfish, as it acts to strengthen you and enables you to support your loved ones better. You are no use to anyone if your energy is depleted because you have given every last bit of it away. Self-care is an antidote to stress, as it builds resilience so you can better cope with challenges.

Today, put yourself first. Recognize that self-care is essential for YOU and in reality for the people in your life. Recognize that your needs are just as worthy as the needs of others. When you become confident in your love for yourself and treat yourself as if we are worthy, then that is what you will attract back. Remember, when a plane is going down, they tell you to put on YOUR oxygen mask first before you help others. Today, absolutely support others, but nurture yourself first. Your self-care is your responsibility, nobody else’s. Today accept that responsibility and begin to become a bit more "selfish" by showering yourself with self care.

Just for today, I am willing to release the need to feel unworthy. I am worthy of the very best in life and I now lovingly allow myself to accept it. Nourishing myself is a joyful experience. I am worth the time I spend taking care of myself. All my needs and desires are met before I even ask. I choose to feel worthy and deserving of my own love. And so it is.
