What you practice you become good at.
What you practice you get good at. We might not think of habits as a practice, but that’s exactly what they are. Each and every day, you and I are practicing being the type of people we want to be, whether we realize it or not. Today become aware of what you are actually choosing to become good at. Become aware of how many times a day do you complain about things not being the way you want them to be? How many times a day do you disengage from connection with others and allow ourselves to be distracted by technology? How many times a day to you judge and criticize other people or yourself. And, how many times a day do you worry about things that haven’t even happened yet? The answer, you will find, is most likely: a lot. Today, begin to recognize that you become an expert at what you repeat over and over again. After all, the key to mastering any skill is repetition; if you repeat a specific action enough, eventually you get good at it. Today, recognize that the true secret to happiness lies in your daily habits rather than in the “magic fixes” you often think will make you happy. Today begin to focus on what you would like to create and to become. Then begin to practice focusing on at least one new habit you’d like to start practicing, such as gratitude no matter what; following your inner wisdom; being impeccable to word and deed or trusting in a power greater than yourself, always. Remember, what you practice you become good at. Today, choose to practice compassion, kindness, forgiveness and understanding and then get good at it.
Just for today, I practice forgiveness daily so I can move out of the past and into the present moment. I choose to feel good about myself every day. Each morning I remind myself that I can make the choice to feel good. This is a new habit for me to cultivate. Divine peace and harmony dwell within me and all around me. I feel tolerance, compassion and love for all people, including myself. I am safe. This is only change and out of this situation only good will come. And so it is.
